Villages and cities of art

With twenty-three villages in the Club of the most beautiful villages in Italy, it is a journey through enchanting places. Not too far from Giulianova is Civitella del Tronto, one of the largest fortresses in Italy: visit the freely accessible village and immerse yourself in the thousand-year-old history that can be felt in every corner. Among the pearls of Abruzzo there is also the village of Pietracamela, a handful of houses, a natural jewel on the slopes of the Gran Sasso.
Castles in the province of Teramo have been famous for their ceramics for centuries and centuries. The quality and refinement of the artefacts were known not only in Italy but throughout Europe. Just outside the village, after the last houses in a secluded position, there is the chapel of San Donato. The ceiling is entirely covered with a thousand decorated tiles, so much so that Carlo Levi defined it as the "Sistine Chapel of Abruzzo".

Civitella del Tronto

City of art of incomparable beauty located at the northern end of the Teramo province, within the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park. The town, which appears in the prestigious club of "The most beautiful villages in Italy", is famous for its historic fortress, one of the most impressive in Italy (over 25,000 m2 of surface area), which overlooks the entire town.

Pietracamela

Pietracamela is a beautiful mountain centre, made unique by the characteristic stone houses, the small "lanes" that run through the town and the delightful Romanesque style churches, full of artistic-religious treasures. From the town you can enjoy a scenario of incomparable beauty: the Monti della Laga with their forests rich in water that descend abundantly into the valley, the majestic Gran Sasso with the Corno Grande and its sharp peaks and vertical walls, the glaciers and all the wonders of the mountains.

Castelli

The small centre, located at the foot of Monti Camicia (2,564 m.) and Prena (2,561 m.), in the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park, is famous for ART OF CERAMICS, already known in pre-Roman times. Many majolica masterpieces created by Castelli artists are exhibited in the most important museums in the world.

Sanctuary of "San Gabriele dell'Addolorata"

The town of Isola del Gran Sasso, as well as for its natural beauty, is famous for the presence, a few hundred meters from the historic centre, of the Sanctuary of San Gabriele dell'Addolorata, " Saint of young people" and Patron Saint of Abruzzo. The Temple, founded by St. Francis of Assisi in 1215, is one of the most visited sanctuaries in the world.

Rocca Calascio

Calascio is a tiny town located in the territory of the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park, surrounded by forests, prairies and pastures, but also by the rugged limestone rock. Its very famous Rocca, symbol of the village, was founded around the year 1000 as a simple watchtower and acquired more and more importance over time.
