Giulianova, an "ideal city" of the Renaissance

Giulianova appears today as a modern and balanced town, grown up following the lines of the hilly landscape on which it extends and respecting the sinuous border of the sea and its wide sandy beach. Such urban harmony is no coincidence: not everyone knows that Giulia (today Giulianova) was an "ideal Renaissance city".

Its streets and squares, churches and all the structures respond to a general project of functionality and liveability, full of cultured symbolic references, inspired by the most advanced ideas of the humanists Leon Battista Alberti and Francesco By Giorgio Martini.

Giulianova is also rich in historical monuments, among which the Duomo di San Flaviano, known as "la Rotonda", and the Sanctuary of the Madonna dello Splendore. The latter is one of the best-known Marian places in Central and Southern Italy and hosts thousands of pilgrims every year. It can be reached by taking a pleasant walk along the Viale dello Splendore, where you can admire magnificent examples of Art Nouveau villas, such as Villa Castelli, with its tower covered with majolica, and Villa De Santis with its reliefs.
